Professional Growth Plan

My Background and
Why I teach

Why practise I teach? I accept wanted to exist an fine art teacher since I sat in my first art room. I was not ever a bang-up student just the fine art room was my dwelling. The identify where I always knew I would be enough. I loved how much I believed in myself in that location, How I would grow, laugh and learn. I watched so many artists' lives grow and change over the iv years I was in the loftier School fine art room.  I wanted to be a part of the alter.  To help students exceed their expectations and learn how to turn their passions into a career.

Every bit an art teacher I strive to create an surroundings that is encouraging. That teaches students to accept confidence, to not fear failure, to create with confidence, interact to expand their potential and to persist through what challenges them. My classroom is an environment where students' voices are listened to and so are guided to solve whatever we need to solve.

2021 marks my 18th yr as a Instruction artist and my 23rd year as an artist! My Pathway to teaching was far from conventional. I worked as a graphics designer and photographer so completed the alternate road to certification. The real-world experience gives me a unique perspective and as well allows me to appreciate the educational activity side of things. Over the past 18 years I accept taught everything from Jewelry to Graphic Design.  In Colorado and NJ.

Before didactics,  I graduated from The University of the Arts in Philadelphia with a BFA in Photography.  After College,  I was a Freelance Graphic Designer for 15 years. My kickoff educational activity position was in my hometown of Ocean City, New Bailiwick of jersey.  In 2006, I relocated to Colorado, and started my second teaching position at Castle View High School, where I continued to develop my teaching skills and draw inspiration from teachers and students. In 2010 I relocated dorsum to NJ.  I started my own photography business www.heathercoxphotography.com and In 2013, I returned to my hometown to continue pedagogy Digital art.

What motivated me? I was always driven to teach considering of the students. I love my students, fifty-fifty the ones that test my patience. Early on in my teaching career, I had an administrator tell me that she could tell I was going to be a good teacher.  That I just have the right personality for information technology.   I am not sure if she was trying to build my confidence or if in that location is some validity to her claim. Just over the years I accept noticed that some people have what it takes to stick it out and others do non. According to Georgetown Academy …adept instructors have several qualities in common. They are prepared, ready articulate and off-white expectations, have a positive attitude, are patient with students, and assess their pedagogy on a regular basis. In the classroom, I strive for these qualities every day.  I dearest how no two days are the aforementioned and I savour beingness the guide on the students' hazard with art. Because y'all never know how that twenty-four hours may bear on a student and if y'all might change their feeling about the discipline birthday.

These moments keep
me teaching

Just the other day a super tranquility student, Mike, was working diligently on his project and as I walked through the room his progress stopped me in my tracks.  He was excelling. His work was wonderful. His artistic choices were potent and well thought out. He quietly asked how to adjust the path and and then I said "this is then wonderful!  You must be so proud of yourself. How many art classes have you taken?"  Mike smiled and quietly said, "I hate art and this is my first class, I am really enjoying it and so much more than I thought." I replied, "I tin tell by looking at this amazing work."  Moments like this keep me going, go along me growing and remind me why I teach. I dear the moment when a student realizes he has a new skill or potential to be something they never imagined and that they are more than a number or a test score.

Lifeline Learner

I am definitely a lifelong learner.  I dearest to explore new things all the fourth dimension in the classroom and in life. I am perpetually learning and growing, exploring new digital artists on Behance, finding new and relevant projects to create and keeping up with the always changing adobe programs. Like Exercise #i in the growth mindset article I will never stop growing (Gunn, n.d.).  Honestly, if I don't abound as tech changes what I will exist teaching the students volition no longer be relevant in the real earth.

I always prepare annual goals for growth and learning. This Yr one of  my goals was to first working towards my masters. Later on 18 years of Education I felt similar I was getting a piddling too comfy and I wanted to learn and develop new skills and so that I could go on providing the best teaching possible to my students.

My personal growth goals are always to strengthen my teaching skill, Learn something new and build past Ed tech toolkit (Tracy, 2018).  To reach thisI annually take grad courses at Uarts in Philadelphia, pa.  Concluding year I completed a photoshop form and a photography form.  I find it incredibly useful to meet how other teachers teach the content I teach.  I as well love the time it allows me to explore the projection myself. I get to go through the steps and encounter how it would feel to be a student again every year and that always opens my eyes to new feelings or ways to teach. This summer I will first my MED in Fine art Education.

In 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teachers, they discuss how "When Planning I begin with the finish in mind.(2018)" Throughout my course use the aforementioned technique. What practice I want the student to learn/create?  What tool do you want them to use to create it? What blueprint problem will they solve?  I like to visualize the destination, assemble the sample images needed.I create a demo file and then students can see how to build a solution.  The end goal is the item I use to assess learning then the end goal is always where I start when planning. The end game is likewise what I apply to reverberate on. One time the project is complete the end product volition allow me to assess and adjust the lesson for future classes.

Beneath is a sample of the student artwork which I gather throughout my grade. The sampling of peer work is used in a presentation evidence to current students prior to each projection. This presentation of peer work is much more engaging to students. They can see what is possible, with a little work and practice.

"Aggrandize YOUR Compact FOR UNCERTAINTY. ONE OF THE Central ELEMENTS IS ONE Thing JOHN KEATS Chosen NEGATIVE Adequacy. THIS ABILITY TO STAY IN SPACE WHERE YOU DON'T EXACTLY KNOW WHAT IS GOING TO HAPPEN NEXT. WILLING TO Empathize THAT Non ALL OF THEM ARE GOING TO LEAD SOMEWHERE. BUT PURSUING AN Idea WILL LEAD TO THE NEXT Thought….CREATIVITY IS A Screw OF EXCITEMENT AND DESPAIR AND Assuasive YOURSELF TO DISAPPEAR Considering IT LEADS TO NEW THINGS. KEEP AT IT."
